The History of Brandon Wilde
Providing Assistance Since 1990!
Brandon Wilde's "family" is made up of over 400 residents and 200 staff. Our residents have come from all over the world to be a part of this active community. Brandon Wilde offers the privacy and beauty of an 73 acre wooded campus minutes away from all the conveniences of Augusta. Atlanta, Charlotte, the mountains and the beach are only a short drive away.
A dream that was conceived by a small group at Augusta's University Hospital culminated in the opening of the Augusta Resource Center on Aging, Inc. (dba Brandon Wilde) in October 1990. The name Brandon Wilde was chosen to honor Augusta poet and statesman Richard Henry Wilde and the first lasting pioneer settlement in Columbia County, known as Brandon.
The original project included 155 apartments, eighteen cottages and assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Expansions over the years have included The Village (Club House and 46 cottages), The Preserve (ten cottages) and most recently the Windsor House (memory care assisted living) and a new Wellness Center. Brandon Wilde is a nonprofit under the sponsorship of University Health Care System.
Brandon Wilde responsibly provides a full continuum of care integrating a wellness philosophy, which enhances the lives of residents and the talented staff who serves them. We value a holistic approach to wellness focusing on the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of life.
We believe wellness is an individual process with residents and staff striving to achieve their own personal balance. We value the highest possible quality of life for residents and staff - a wellness lifestyle. We treat everyone as we want to be treated, accepting personal differences and celebrating diversity. We are committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of others. We foster mutual respect between residents and staff.
Philanthropy has always been a part of allowing Brandon Wilde to maintain its high standards and position as a leader in retirement living.
Scholarships for employees, extra amenities for residents and improvements that have added to the quality of life at Brandon Wilde are just some examples of what has been made possible by the generosity of residents and friends of Brandon Wilde over the years. Brandon Wilde also has established the Life Care Support Endowment to assist Life Care residents of Brandon Wilde who need assistance.
The Brandon Wilde Resident Council is an elected body that represents resident's interests and communicates with management and staff about needs and concerns. The Council is composed of representatives from each of the 10 Brandon Wilde "neighborhoods," and provides residents with an influential voice in Community decision-making. The Council's committee system works directly with leadership and staff in making resident's wishes known.
